True, but I intend to try to breed them in it. If it doesn't work I can always lower the pH. When they were in the 5g, they seemed less active though the pH is around 6.4.

I don't think the snails were mts. I have a video of them on my 1.5g thread. Looks like ramshorn, but the shell is horizontal instead of vertical. Thanks for the offer but they're all taken care of. The assassin snails finally got some real food.

Acclimated doesn't mean they'll breed in houston tap, but you never know until you try...if you can't get them to make with the fry, well then you'll know. lol.

Glad the sand worked out, was it enough? That's crazy there were still MTS in it, it was in a bucket getting dry for what, like a week?! Two? MTS are such a plauge! We've got some assassin snails if you want.

Yeah. I'm gonna hafta find a carbon bottle fo sho. Especially now since the 105 is back up and running fully and ready for different fish.

Just use distilled/RO water and IAL and peat moss. I remember reading it was the lower TDS that the fish noticed as opposed to the Ph. The Ph will solwly drop and hopefully start breeding. Smaller tanks are far easier then anything large. I can't honestly imagine a larger soft water tank without an in house RO unit...

But they're acclimated to Houston tap! Lol I certainly don't want to be going back and forth every 2 days to get distilled or ro water.

Lol too much work. I'll keep to the minimalist scape. I'll just stick to constant water changes and heavy feeding. No water softening. Although, I've always like the idea of a black water tank with IAL and peat moss substrate and a spotlight with leaf fish, cories, and a bright schooling fish like cherry rasboras.

Carbon bottle does wonders. I made a wannabe rig that cost me about $20 +$11 for cartidges. Uses those in house carbon cartridge replacements. Cheap and effective.

Ugh. I'll never do a soft water tank in Houston again after my major losses in the 105. I forget who, but someone on the box had a great geos black water tank with IAL and peat, and they had some albino corys in there. Looked really cool.

i found this report of a successful breeding of the species, it suggested they were a plant spawner. Not much info given as to water parameters, but I would guess they were not very far off the Peruvian killifish we acquired. Crazy soft water and low PH.
