So the males will often have a dark stripe on their underbelly which darkens with aggression, along with lines around their eyes. You typically can't see those til they're older and ready to spawn though. The females are usually rounder too.

That is why I haven't sold any of my malawa shrimp from my 20 gallon... gobie and puffer food lol
