rams are a good choice too. fill it with tetras or rasboras. you can do so much with plant friendly tanks/fish.

South American dwarf cichlids are great choices as well as the Curviceps and a few oddballs (festivums, angelfish, pike cichlids)

Also a heads up if your tank has cichlids. Plants and cichlids don't seem to work well together. They'll dig up the plants and nip at them.

90 should be a great size tank, though it might take awhile to properly fill in. Many folks on here have plants and many local stores sell decent plants. I would suggest Anubias, Swords, Lotus, Crypts, Mosses, Java Ferns and Vals. All are fairly easy and workable in a tank that size. None are weird about water requirements and do not need Co2 injection. All of our tanks were low tech when you came over to the GHAC meeting last year in Spring. Just keep adding along the way and see what grows and what does not. There is a lot of trial and error involved in first planted tanks and just have fun. Ask questions as they come up and read as much about Low tech planted tanks as you can online as it does answer many issues you might not foresee at start up. Good Luck!

He started my tank too lol. He completely filled my 5G. That's another reason I like plants from hobbyists. They're already tested and work in our water. You can also get extra info on them if you need from the person. LFS usually get it through shipment and some survive long enough to die in your tank when you bring it home.

$50 planted my 210G. Even if funds are limited, plants are cheap and also can be obtained at no cost at all.

Carpets are more pricey. Also the fact that almost all of them grow better with CO2.
