there are some choices with higher pH tolerant plants. some of the standard anubias, java fern, valisneria will tolerate the conditions well. i have seen algaes in with these shrimp before...but it didnt look like pelia sp. to me

I'm not sure how common blasting grit may be for sulawesi shrimp tanks, but I wanted to try it. I have also thought about getting a 12 gallon long Mr Aqua rimless tank, not sure what I would use for a light.

Yeah, I saw all the possibilities with a 12g long and couldnt resist. Ive been looking at different lighting options, trying to decide if i wanna go LED or PC or T5HO. Ive always wanted to try sulawesi shrimp, but was always concerned with the higher ph requirements and i like plants a lot, not many plants do well in high ph. Ill either go sulawesi / rock tank with the 12 long and cardinal shrimp or amazon themed so i can get some cardinal tetra's and have them swim the length of the track, but good to know about the sandblasting stuff.

use ikeas led strips and mount them to the bookshelf. next week i will finally set my 3g tank

These are in a tank that has Black Diamond blasting grit, which has a ph of ~7.9. Snowballs are pretty hardy and can tolerate up to 8.0 for a ph from what I have read. Snowballs are also breeding like crazy.

good idea tim, at least that is what the breeders in that amazonia issue would say. they reported larger proportional yields from groups of 50-100 adults.

I do like the cardinals better than the crs/cbs. JMO...
