Howdy Mark,
Thank you for posting up your latest tank build. I’m curious to know your reason for trying to set up a counter-flow/vertical gyre in your river manifold tank by placing the Eheim intakes on the opposite side of the tank as the manifold system intakes? The original inventor of that system put all the intakes on one side and all the outputs on the other helping to create a unidirectional flow as found in a river or fast flowing stream habitat. That would be the type of habitat preferred by the species you mentioned on your stocking list. By placing the intakes on opposite ends I can see that some vertical circulation effect would be produced—by why would you want it for this tank? The only place I have read about that sort of system would be systems for raising certain pelagic SW species such as sea horse fry grow out tanks and jellyfish tanks. What is your reasoning for wanting it in this tank? I think that due to the relatively short height of the tank relative to its length the larger effect would be a counter flow effect, which would have the net effect of slowing down the unidirectional current in the tank as the water current going one way creates turbulence and resistance to the flow going the opposite way. If you could clarify this for me I would appreciate it.Last edited by Bedlamer; 05-29-2012, 12:01 AM.

Thanks Tim.Originally posted by armthehomeless View PostBeautiful tank, Mark!!! I can't wait to see it stocked.
The rhinogobius Zhoui and stiphodons I want are a little hard to find. Hillstreams will be a little easier, I hope.

Thanks dude. I'll probably keep them in this tank as it's the only one I have now. lolOriginally posted by TexSun View PostLooking awesome! I'm looking foward to seeing this progress. Are the ABN staying or moving to another tank?

Thanks Bro. I shot one last night but it was so jumpy I didn't post it. I'll shoot another tonight. The spray bars and 2 powerheads are shooting across the top and the three powerheads on the manifold are shooting the opposite direction along the bottom. I was trying for a somewhat circular current.

The plants I have do fine in sand. It's pretty sterile now but will mature quickly. I'll add a little NO2 and KCl to feed in the meantime.Originally posted by BrAin View PostTank looks awesome. How will the plants do in the sand? I have a 70 that needs some color but I didnt think the plants would thrive.
