If only it were that easy. I know for a fact MFKers have been trying for a while, even other Arowana forums have pushed for the revision of the law. It's failed.. These guys aren't going to become legal in the US anytime soon.
-
I think what's different now than in the early days of CITIES is what we take for granted nowadays. Think about it........the internet and fish discussion forums like the houstonfishbox were not organized as they are today.
What if....................monsterfishkeepers, waterwolves, the cichlid-forum, cyphos, dfw fishbox, houstonfishbox..............got together and re-petitioned the US department that has oversight for CITIES and the endangered species list. Who better than hobbyist would take good care of these species and others like stingrays..............
We could flood........yes, flood these guys with letters to permit hobbyists to keep them. Maybe if we had to pay $250-$1,000 to get a permit to keep one that might open their eyes and ears.
Just saying.............

LOL Robert. Cmon now. Asian aros in the wild? They're pretty much extinct. Destruction of their habitats plus the natives trying to catch them to sell is a big problem. Some farms do release some of their Aro's, but they track them closely to make sure they're not jacked. Honestly, if you compare the Asian Aro population in captivity vs. the wild, you'd probably end up with 95% in captivity, and 5% in the wild.. It's gotten pretty bad.

All asian aros for sale are farm bred. Cites requires them to be microchipped and have a certificate. They are not legally allowed here because of the esa even if captive bred with all paperwork

Probably yellowtail/banjar/ red 1.5 or grade 2. And alot of the stated prices must be old because recently ive seen greens at 600 and rtg at 1500. For those who would risk it is the massive fine and jail time really worth it thoughLast edited by rgonzales; 03-11-2012, 10:05 PM.

And what are yellows?
I've seen some super reds priced higher than xb.

No even having the fish is illegal and can result in fines and jail time. You would not be able to keep the fish. I dont know where you got your info but green are the cheapest. Golds would also be rtg or xb. And xb prices are higher than reds

do u guys know why the fish was classified as endangered ? once the third world countries in asian found out how much they could fetch for one they went aro hunting......they would chop the males head right off and there would be hundreds of babys in there......and they could easily fetch 1000 for each versus the national average income of 70 us dollars back then.....there are many around the crime is when you bring them across borders.....if they are here already just say i liked the fish and didnt know and big bro will let u keep it.....the quality is in the gills when young....most of the golds in town are not true golds but actually yellow aros.......in cali u can get them for 150 and the green are 300
