Since I am in the veterinary field, and have the perspective from a pet owner, I'm just gonna say this. To me, its not about how much a fish costs financially. I personally value gold shiners, trophs, goldfish, plecos, bichirs, puffers etc, with nearly the same reverence. Just like to me, a pure bred dog the same or nearly the same value as far as a mixed breed. They BOTH need love and attention, and this is where I am in this hobby. They all have lives that need our care and attention.

Yes. I'm proud of my WC black tailed shiners I got from Jstrider as much as my F"whatever" angelfish.

I'm just glad that I appreciate our own native "WC" fish as much as I do. Especially with MY empty wallet!

I think you and I are a lot alike in that perspective. I know others may not agree on my viewpoint.
This is the best way I can explain my enjoyment of oddball fish and why I cannot specialize in just a single type.

Treat 'em nice in a QT and they're awesome fish. :)

how long did that last? i've tried before, all the other fish that was in the tank end up dead...

Maybe that's because you put bait minnows in there...lol.

They went in a 20 gallon long with heavy water flow from the powerheads. They were doing well, but they became an Ike casualty.

Ok you got me there. But I have even kept "bait minnows" (gold shiners) in aquaria before.
