    i like the Styrofoam idea..! been thinking about what to use to cover it to quiet the splashing noise when over flowing to the siphon/drain side

    My post was to point out the key points of an overflow box that added on to what kiko stated. I claimed nothing in this thread and your accusation was faulted by not understanding the statement made.

    Mine sounds like a flushing toilet if I didn't have a mechanism to make it quiet. The tank is reef-ready so it has the corner overflow chambers. Without the standpipe the waterfall would be dropping 29 inches to get to the bottom. The waterfall alone might be tolerable - like some small rapids in a stream. But the flushing toilet noise is just unacceptable haha

    there is in the box inside of the tank... and if you tweak the airline just right, there also surface skimming is on the outside box too... look at the video closely it shows the water swirling... and also the airline hosing causes a little aeration in the drain hose which causes agitation... trust me i thought this out b4 posting... lol
