found one of those R/O'S. 24 GALS a day 150 bucks. good deal?

Mine was less than $100 on ebay but that was over a year ago.

well of course its the last thing i try,CARBON FILTER. made one the other day ran it 15 gals of water, presto chango. 24 hrs later 7.4.they must put some crazy chems in the water here to treat it. oh found one of those R/O'S. 24 GALS a day 150 bucks. good deal?

The R/O membrain lets some pure water through little tiney holes and the remainder of the water contnues on with all the hardness to the drain.
If it didn't do this, the membrain would plug up just like a HOB filter.
The quality of the membrain and the pressure of the water will change the actual ratio of soft water to drain water. You can back flush the membrain to flush out the hardness that gets stuck in the membrain and you will get a better ratio. But all the backflush water goes to the drain.

R/O water is not soft water. The pH is around 7 (neutral) or a little higher. You need organic acids to lower the pH. Oak leaves, Almond leaves, Bannana leaves etc.

Reverse Osmosis / Deionized water treatment system
filters out sediment, chemicals, hardness etc. and
you get one gallon of pure water for every 10 gallons input.
The other 9 gallons go to the drain.



Mine does 100 gallons per day.
Which means my waterbill is for an extra 1000 gallons per day.

You lose 9 gallons for every 1 gallon of RO?

ok, the watermill out of the question,and ro fiter to expensive.so i tried the peat thing and got it down to about 8. then i tried some proper ph and it got it down to about 8 but just alittle quicker, but not worth the money for that stuff. remember all the water runs above 8.8 here. could be higher but thats all my test will show for.will start with oak leafs today.the reason i want it down so is because i would like to breed bettas.will they breed in ph of 8.0..........hey wheres all the icons

You can buy water from the water mill or from the LFS.

sorry, wasnt thinking, u've got alot of tanks. for right now i just need about ten gals a week. does it come in anything smaller

wow thats pretty impresive looking gadget there, looks expensive too. i dont think ill beable to hide the extra water cost from my land lord. he doesnt know about my future plans for his little 1 bd apt

maybe i should have nicked name myself " dont have a clue bettaman" but ek whats a RO/DI UNIT and can i treat alot of water with it

My RO water comes out 7.2 pH.  But that's not low enough for wild bettas so I use Kent pH low controler for my water changes
but in the tank I have plants, driftwood & a peat block in the HOB filter to maintain a <6.0 pH.

Honestly the cheapest thing to use for long term is an RO/DI unit.

hey guys, ive been letting my water circulate in a bucket for a week now and the ph is still above 8.2. is there a cheap and natural way to bring it down to at least nutral. thanks guys :?
