Wardly SandMan HOB Filter Question

I won one in the raffle at the meeting. Instead of using the prefilter I left that off. I replaced the sand with D.E. (had to get a 25lb bag) and added a carbon sock behind the carbon pad. I then put the pre filter material where the carbon pad went. It works perfect and I had no problems. It does take a bit to set-up though. I use canister filters on my tanks(I hate the way filters look in tanks). But I am going to get 6 tomorrow from King Dollar and use them as supplemental filtration. The ice blue color is not bad looking.

I saw about a dozen of these units Friday at BB Tropical Fish & Pets on FM 1960 near Willowbrook.

I just picked up 6 at the king dollar at 290 and Fairbanks N. Houston. They had at least 20 more.

I agree with your statement, but it seems to work decent for a small tank. But I'm sure with your DIY skills you will figure out a way to make it work better. Please let us know if you make some mods to improve it.Originally posted by fshfrk View PostBought 12 at the King dollar in conroe today. They still had 24 left. What did you put the silicone on, the housing covering the impeller. Like I said the Tomball store probably had at least 50 units. Thanks for the help.

what i did as well after adding silicone, was to lift the intake slightly up and down as it was on to help get the water moving.

I just finished adding the super glue between the magnet and the impeller, hope it works. Thanks for the tip.

Planning on trying to buy about 5 or 10 of the filters and parting them out for spares/project boxes
