She didn't buy it. It's an african fish from the store she's helping out at. Stopped by the place a week ago. Didn't really pay attention to the fish as I'm not much of a fan for african fish

where did u purchase the fish from j/w? I have seen cichlids pretty much like her before. I have also heard like above they make great parents very well protective of there offspring. What is all in the tank with her?

shes definitely mixed hyrbid fish, I agree that she must have some fuelliborni in her bc of the mouth shape.

Most are hybrids already, Malawi's are not my strong suit so identification is tough. By the looks of here, I'd imagine she was already a hybrid though so it is not really doing anything further. I'd let her hold and maybe draw some focus on her from customers.

Is she in a tank with a lot of other fish? I just started breeding cichlids in a 136 community tank and I have and plan on removing holding females just as a precaution. Then again I have a catfish in there and I do not trust catfish with small fish ever.

Judging by the shape of the mouth I'd say she's got Labeotropheus fuelliborni in her ancestry.

i'm just wondering if i should separate her? and i've always kinda thought that hybridizing these guys was a bad idea? should i strip and cull?

WOW! Ally, I don't know a lot about africans. I know they are good parents. So you may not need to do anything. Just wait.

"assorted africans" breeding
so i'm opening at the little shop i've been helping out at lately, and i spot what appears to be a female holding. the spawn has to be hybrid, because she is the only one of her kind in the tank. as i have very little experience with african cichlids, (SA stole my heart a long time ago) i'm not sure what species she is or what to do... help! :)
