  • looking at a new setup - where to go?

Hi all - Brand new to this forum and to getting a fish tank. Been wanting one for years and years, now trying to look at the possibility.

Where would be a good place here in Houston to look at a complete in house setup, if I'm looking for a tank around 100 - at most 150 gallons? There are so many stores in the local fish store map and have no idea where to start. Tried looking around on some of the forums but didn't really find any threads with good suggestions for what I'm looking for....

    Thanks so much!

        Depend on your budget.

If you have cash to blow, you can start by going to Fish Land to get the tank, stand, canopy, glass top for good price. I bought several tanks from them. Then you need to buy a good filter to start cycling the tank. That is the first step. A brand new tank and filter would run around $1000-1500 depend on tank size.

If you have tight budget, you can look at Craiglist, FB or even here on this web site. A good used set up would run about 500-800 depend on tank size. People post them up for sale here almost all the time.

        Hope it helps.

just looking online and at facebook and yelp, came across aquarium design group and that aquarium place too....stopped by fish gallery last week.

figure this is a big one time investment so want to get a nice setup and willing to spend a bit more for the expertise and service aspects....

Yeah, FG is very nice but I think their price is on the high side.
Are you doing fresh or salt?

fresh just because of the cost. also going to try and maintain myself, so figure salt would be much more difficult in addition to costly.

but a small part of me wold love saltwater tank!
