  • Is my feeding correct?

Hey guys, just wanting to make sure this is good for my tank. I have a 55 gallon with 4 Roseline Sharks, 19 Serpae Tetras, 2 German Blue Rams, 4 Siamese Algae Eaters, and 2 Small Plecos. I've currently been feeding them 1 square of frozen Brine Shrimp thawed and rinsed daily and a tab for the Algae Eaters every other day. The reason I don't feed the Algae Eaters daily is because it takes them about a day and a half to eat the single pellet. I also have been doing a 40-50% water change every 2-3 weeks depending on when my Nitrate levels get over 10.

You need to be feeding Color flakes. Brine shrimp is like feeding them candy. No nutrition at all. the tetras rams and pleco's will eat it and it's good for them. but use other foods as treats. The algae eaters you are doing good.

While live brine shrimp is about 50 percent protein, in frozen form it is about five percent (you are mostly buying water). Some frozen brine brands are augmented with some variation of vitamin C (growth) and carotene (color). I agree with Troy in that you should be supplementing with high quality flake foods or pellets. Most plecos, algae eaters and otos need additional plant matter. You can briefly boil a small slice of zucchini or cucumber in a microwave for about one minute in a small glass dish, cool and drop to the bottom of your tank. Mike

You can break up the algae wafer into small pieces, if you worry they can't finish the whole thing.
Most of my tanks have an army of BN pleco, so they can consume 1-2 waffer a day without any problem.

My fish love Ken flake. I also use Tetracolor flake for fry.

I use Ken's Beefheart flakes. Omega color flakes. spectrum cichlid pellets. But hakari blood worms. and fresh beefheart as a treat.

Also your pleco's are not algae eaters they like meaty foods.

With all the tanks and fish I've had. I only feed spirulina flake and live foods. Black worms, mosquitos larva, and daphnia.

Can you tell us how you set up your live food breeding programs? I assume your mosquitos come from the outside.
