  • Hello

Hi all, just stopping by to introduce myself. Navy veteran, and lifetime fish tank enthusiast. I have had tanks since I was 5, and have not stopped since. I prefer freshwater to saltwater tanks, but only because of the cost associated with maintenance. Otherwise, I have had numerous planted tanks, and have owned a wide variety of fish.

I came from Lubbock to Houston last year, and have yet to make many friends (pretty selective) so if anyone is 4/20 friendly and wants to talk fish tanks, hit me up.

Welcome to the Box! Lot of great people on here. There are many groups in the club section of the site depending what you are interested in overall. Otherwise just a good group of people sharing experiences and giving advice.

Now taking suggestions for planted 40 gallon breeder. Already have it cycling, with 60 lbs of eco complete, some onions and amazon swords, etc.

Where can I go for best selection locally?

I have a bundle of amazon swords, some onions, a banana plant, and something else. Forgot the name. I am taking suggestions on stock though.

Welcome aboard! As far as local shops I shop at for plants, Aquarium Design Group, Fish Gallery, That Aquarium Place, Houston Aquarium Warehouse all have great selections. With low tech stuff we also trade some at GHAC (Greater Houston Aquarium Club) meetings that are every month. The details are always in the club subforum and on the Facebook group. Most of my plants come from other members here. All the places Roy said are great LFS.

If you want to meet new fish friends and maybe pick up some new stuff, the Houston Aquarium Society is having an auction this Sunday. Details at:

Sadly, the HAS rarely has regular meetings anymore, but it has auctions three or four times a year that are well attended and a lot of fun.
