  • Miracle Grow Fertilizer?

Just watched a video by MA Fishguy, in which he claims miracle grow all purpose fertilizer is a great trick to grow plants in the tank. Video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/ZCTo67IqGBQ

Anyone have any stories about trying this here in TX?

I remember somebody on here try to grow green algae on their river rock. They put some Miracle Growth in a 5Gallon bucket and submerge the rocks in there for a few days. Left it outside in the sun and got some really nice algae growth on the rock. Not sure if anybody try to use it for their planted tank?

I would love to do that for my acei. I've got some algae in my tanks due to lights and the little guys will spend most of the day chowing on some fake wood. My holey rock in the 30 gets heavy algae so I'll move it over for the acei and then put it back in the 30 to grow more. The 30gal has strong lighting. I'm going to try the above.

The video said it's working great and have no negative effect on the fish or water parameters. I guess we have to try it and find out.

My plants are doing very well. I think I will keep doing it the way I have been doing it.

So after doing some research it appears that using miracle gro causes a severe ammonia spike but I think if you have a heavily planted tank it would be ok

So my Angel was acting funny. so I decided to test the water and Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate were all off the charts! Once again I believed what the internet told me, lol.

Doing a large WC. Hopefully that will change everything around.

Update, my Angel succumbed to the fluctuation of chemicals in the tank. However all other fish are fine.

Have to be careful with those Ferts.

Hello everyone. I'm new to fish box. I just watch the video on top of this tread. I use to use the miracle grow sticks in my planted tank many years ago when I lived in kemah. I would break them in half and stick them down in the substrate near the roots of my plants. I never had a ammonia spike and never loss any fish. Now I have never used the liquid type before.
                            Just sharing.
