I can't wait until I see fry in my 75, even though I probably won't try to save them. It was years before I ever saw any fry in there.

Those fish of yours are so gorgeous. I love the colors.

Are they acei grumpy or auratus grumpy? I'm just curious since I haven't had a lot of different mbuna.

They are not aggressive like Demasoni or other Mbuna. They are super active though. I'm thinking they will mature at about the same size as demasoni.

PM me if you want some to try out.

Thanks. I'm very happy with the coloration they are developing. The red/orange color shows really well after I give them their own tank.

From research some people are saying they're a little more grumpy than the yellow lab. Sounds like my socolofi which isn't bad. Last night my lab and socolofi were telling each other off. it's always the same with those two. They're quiet funny. lol

I think they are about the same temperament.
However, due to size, the yellow lab would probably kicks the Hongi behind anytime.

I'm REALLy surprised that the socolofi backs down to her. Especially since she's been so timid for so long.

Do you think that eventually the Hongi could live in my mixed upworld or would I need to do a species tank? I'm really leaning towards a species tank but I'd still like to know if my mixed tank could be possible.

They would survive in your mixed tank but they probably will not thrive: no breeding and coloring up. If you can, give them a tank for themselves. They didn't look as good when I grow them out with other fish, and definitely no breeding at all.

Well I've got that tank sitting on my kitchen floor that needs to be resealed. I think by the time I pay to get it resealed, by a stand, hood, lights, filter, I could probably by one off of craigslist just as cheap if not cheaper. The tank is deep and I don't believe there's any way my back will allow me to reseal it. The Hongi are so pretty I think it would be a a shame not to have them as a species only center piece.

I watched a youtube video of a pair spawning in a pot and the male would go out and do a little lip lock with a hap and zoom back into the pot. I thought he was gorgeous.

Yes, they definitely deserve a specie tank. I usually don't care so much for Malawi, but I couldn't let these guys go.
