  • 8 ft 300g South America. Build

Just picked this monster up. 96×24×30 acrylic setup. Will be refinishing the stand, sanding and polishing the tank. Also will be drilling the tank and getting a custom overflow box made. Inhabitants will be a variety of large geophagus, large school of corys (100+), and a large school of lemon tetras (100+) wish I could get my hands on a fresh water ray. :(

Update. Got all wood materials to reinforce the stand. The front will consist of one large 8ft panel held with magnets, will be fully removable to work on filtration. Trim will go all the around and outline 3 door on the panel. Both sides of the stand will also be removable. Plan on doing all white, very clean look.
          Trim
          Pine wood panel
Look similar to this but with 1 panel

Sanded the tank with 800,1200,2000, and 5000 grit. Stand is also coming along nicely. Door, trim, and painting will all come tomorrow. Finishing up buffing the tank. Hoping to have it running my Sunday or Monday.

Ugh, it's a nightmare. I have sanded this tank all those grits 3x and still seeing some small scratches, although you have to be right up on it. Hoping once waters in it, you won't be able to notice.

You are my hero man. Sanding a tank that size is a big job. Hang in there. Once it's filled with water, it will be very rewarding.

Get a buffing wheel and some compound for acrylic to remove the fine scratches and polish. I've seen people use a torch to heat the surface for a shiney finish.

Update on progress. A week into redoing the entire stand I am nearly done. Had a good friend come out to help me make this stand into something special. Some pics along the way.
Was attacked by tiger mesquitos while working on the stand at night. Aparently allergic to them, what do you think?
                              Painting under way
                              Almost finished.
Everything sanded. Finishing the buffing g.
