yeah even if they replace this one, i may still just start buying eheims as heaters break down. i still have one thats been over 10 years and i never see the brand anymore (neptune). otherwise i have been using like aqueon and other such generic models.

i had to go out and buy an emergency heater from walmart last night just to hold me over. those tetra brand heaters are not great but i had no choice. water was at 73 and fish were not happy. after an hour or so with heater they perked up back to normal

What filtration do you have in your tank? I have canisters on most of my tanks and the heat generated from the motor is enough to keep the water around 78 at this time.

i will be slowly upgrading filters for all my tanks. right now all my tanks use HOBs. this tank only has a whisper 60. does not do anything in terms of heat.

Yep, you definitely need a heater for HOB.

I have 2x Eheim 2262 for the 150G and my heater rarely on except for when I do water change.

The bigger tanks tinned to hold heat. Smaller tanks cool faster. I have been looking Just because you brought it up. I like some of the inline models. I may go that way.

That would work too if you have enough space under the stand. Inline heater definitely gives the tank cleaner look.

I may look at inlines eventually, but this tank is more of a box shape (not a typical longer footprint you see for a 56gal range). not as much real estate under the tank, but worth looking into someday.

Anybody has inline heater and a picture to share and show how it looks under the stand?
                  Thanks.

Here's a pic from the web. Inline heaters don't take up much room. They essentially just make your return tubing on the canister slightly bulkier

Here are some cool links I found on DIY inline heaters using a standard heater and PVC:

This route you can use the heater you already have and save some money

Thanks Austin. The problem with inline heater is: another potential leak in the system. But I'm contemplating in trying it.

I'm not so sure about the doit your self ones. If I have to buy the heater to put in the pipe. I will just put it in the sump. Save $3.00 in PVC.
