  • Where do you buy your fish?

I'm setting up my first cichlid tank and want to go to a LFS to look at fish and get stocking advice.

I went to Ultimate Fish and it was very helpful. Where else should I go in the Houston area?

    Thanks!!!

You can come to my house and buy cichlids! Lots of people here have lots of cichlids for sale and lots of advice!

My guess is you live up north. In south west area, my frequent LFS are Fishland, Xtreme Fish and Pets, City Pets, Fish and Pet unlimited, T&T. Occasionally I go to ADG and Fish Gallery.

That Aquarium Place is up on Louetta and Stuebner. Jamal is a great guy and very helpful. Will be having the GHAC (Greater Houston Aquarium Club) meeting there on the 16th, though the topic will be Monster Fish. I will be covering Tang tanks, especially Fronts, Trophs, Petros

From there, I'd hit ADG (Aquarium Design Group), HAW (Houston Aquarium Warehouse), and Fish Gallery. City Pets and Extreme are both decent as well. Know there are more on the south side, but never get past those really...lol

ADG for hard to find fish. Petland for tanks and equipment and common fish.

You can try aquazoo, it's near baybrook mall, it's a really small store. but have a decent selection of fish.

Generally for cichlids i go to Fishland (which is on Westheimer Rd) and Fish Gallery (Fountain View Rd near the Gallaria). Those are the closest stores to me, but I am NW of the city. I have been to ADG once, but a great store.

Have heard good things about all the other places people mentioned (HAW, Xtreme, CityPets, etc.). Xtreme i think has a lot more oddballs.

Fishland has variety of CA/SA/Africans. Good prices too. Fish Gallery has a bigger selection, but can be a little more pricey. I normally trade in my fry to them because they are reasonable.

And yes many people on the board here sell in the market place at fair prices.

I have hit most of those listed previously. I like fishland. Aqua Zoo on El Dorado usually has a decent selection of ciclids as well.

ADG is a good place to start if you live in Pearland.

Which of these places carry the most Peacocks or is it hit and miss?

If you're looking for guaranteed, high quality peacocks, go to ADG. If you're looking for a variety at a great price, try Fishland

The problem with Fishland is there's no guarantee on true species
