  • 330 gallon peninsula discus redo

Been in the saltwater hobby for quite a while and continue to have my 8 foot reef actually in the same, former dining, room in the house. I got a bit frustrated with my 330 gallon fish only with live rock "FOWLR" and an outbreak of velvet, followed by uronema ( I think) where I had a couple of total wipeouts despite a six week quarantine. This led me to decide to try something completely different and transition the FOWLR into a discus tank. So figured I would share some of the journey including original buildout.
The dims are 67" wide by 31" deep by 36" tall. When you walk into my front door you have an open dining room on your left which has a large opening and a ledge cut through to our family room. This area is where the tank is integrated. Walking into the house you will still see through the tank into the family room with the tank having a peninsula setup and back left corner overflow that will almost reach the front glass. The tank will then be viewable from the front hall/former dining room and then from the family room/back of the house as well. Each side will have a totally different look and there will also be a large cut out in the dry wall so you can see the side from the hallway.
It will truly be 3-sided viewing. Dims are dictated by the current design of this corner which is best shown in pics (to be added). I checked into taller, but it became prohibitive on pricing (more than doubled the cost to add a few inches).
Here is an outline of the room, reef tank in far corner.

I cut out a hole in the wall for side viewing and drywalled it in

Thanks for the nice words everyone. The arch was built and place into the tank while on the ground and is something I wasn't able to take out when making the transition. It's epoxy, emaco, pvc and hours with a foot long drill bit to make that and it wasn't coming out. I am doing my best to soften it and make it a seamless part of the freshwater scape. I am going to put a few more driftwood pieces and maybe take a few plants out. Just have to find the right pieces.
Stocking wise I have seven roseline sharks and 50 cardinals. Also 5 red pigeon blood discus in the quarantine tank.

Going to check out some more discus this coming weekend and will put them in qt and move the pigeon bloods into the main.

Awesome looking setup. I heard rumor that Houston Aquarium Warehouse will have a new shipment of Discus Ready for sale on Saturday.
I also heard they are closed on Easter Sunday
