  • LED Lighting

Been away lurking for awhile. Need to do some well needed maintenance to my tank. I'd like to first replace the lighting on the tank. Anyone have any LED light recommendations that are not an arm and a leg? I currently have 2 Marineland LED fixtures (well 1 since 1 is burnt out).

Was thinking about using those LED light bars that people have been putting on cars lately. Does not seem too expensive and appear to be super bright.

    TIA!

I just purchased two 20W LED floodlights, almost 100% solid reviews from what I've seen. Only $15 a piece. They arrive on Thursday, I'll post pics here.

My current fixture is DIY LED modules off Ebay. Another good option, and you can piece your own together. Depends on if you want a lot of lesser wattage diodes (more dispersed, diluted light), or fewer higher wattage diodes (more focused, concentrated light)

I spent many an hour on the box before I bit the bullet. Here's a helpful thread with some options, courtesy of Sunny and others.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look. My tank is 30" high so I want to make sure the lights will penetrate all the way down.

Of course. Might want to up it to a 30W light in that case, maybe someone who already has them could chime in

Those are super nice, that would perfect on a 40 or 55.

If I did it over again, I would go with 30W floods. The 20s are bright when placed directly on the tops, but once you start lifting them, the brightness drops significantly.

I also didn't realize you need heavy surface agitation to get that shimmer. No water movement = no shimmer

Lights look really neat. I might try just one on my Moba tank. BTW, some serious flow in that tank bro!
