  • Hydor Heater fail

    Hello all,
After been away for few days to visits family out of town and come home last night, notify one of my frys tank’s water very cloudy and when I test the temperature around 115 to 117 degree ,it killed(cooked) all 50+ of my Malagarasi frys that I promises to someone this weekend. I just replaced this type of heater three months ago .Have anyone have experience above this issue in the past? I just want to share my experience with Hydor heater.

I usually buy marineland (cheap and last) I've got one that's over 10 yearsold. Bought a hydro once, it didn't work out of the box. They look nice. I returned it and bought a cheap marineland (ugly but works).

I alway and normally used Eheim heater , though these just for Frys tanks thus use Hydor type but it's won't happen anytime near future because I am going to stick with Eheim or Titanium .

Sometimes it's good to stick to tried and true. That sucks though. Sorry for the loss

I believe failed heater is every fish keeper nightmare. Sorry for your loss! I guess titanium is the way to go. Expensive though.

Sorry for the loss my brother Vinny. I use Eheim heater on all my tanks and I have trust in them for most two years. Please check out Kensfish.com they have a reasonable price on them. For me Titanium is great filter but it costly for fry tank.

wow sorry to hear about the loss.

i never used those heaters, but i also use cheaper heaters. like aqueon. i have most of my heaters tied into timers now, so they are enabled a few hours then disabled a few...usually on a 2 hours cycle. this way if those internal sensors ever short out then the heater does not stay engaged 24/7.

the water temp stays right where it needs to be and gives me some peace of mind when away for extended periods.

I said 50+ but when I remove them from the tank there were 78 little guys/gal bodies size from 1" to 11/4" .
