The simple answer, in my opinion: no.

Maybe replace each FX6 with a 2260/62, and you'll still have a much longer service interval than FX6. In a tank like yours, I think you could go 6 months or more between cleanings with a 2260/62. That said, it's gonna take a little while for you to see how well a 2260/62 performs in mechanical filtration and there's a chance you might not like what you find.

      Outstanding tank BTW!

I'm aware of the mechanical filtration strength of the Fx6 as water circulates up through sponges and the down through bio media. Maybe I'll replace ny two 2217s with one 2262 And keep the two Fx6 online as is. I have Hydor low flows circulating debris into the Fx6 intakes.

I suppose I could have the three large canisters if I can control flow of the 2262,To return on surface without pressure. Then I could increase chemical filtration in bottom two trays of fx6s using Chemipure Elite in one and Purigen in other and make the 2262 all bio filtration. I'd then plum my 36W UV through the 2262.

Do you think this is an improvement?

I think if low flow is what you're looking for, 2260 is better. You can control flow of 2260/62 with the valves on the return side quick disconnect.

Will doing all these changes improve what you have going on now to warrant the extra effort and expense? Probably not.

Cost benefit ratio maybe low but it may reduce some risk and maintenance reqs by downsizing hardware. To me its a hobby. WQ is where I try to invest my efforts. Anybody know the power use of one 2262 vs two 2217s.

Reducing number of hardware devices not downsizing. Sorry for misnomer.

Looks like you're itching to do it regardless LOL. Go for it. It won't hurt.

I can't go wet dry or freshwater refugium (
Controversial) with my tank. If I were more experienced when I started last year I might have got the overflow tank.

Cost wont be to bad seeing that 2217's can be sold for 70-100. I might be interested one if u do sale.

Tautog, why can't you go wet/dry? I run one along with a canister. I clean my 2262 every 6 months although I could probably easily go about a year without doing so. I change filter pad in the wet/dry drawer once a week. I know you want to cut down on the hardware, been there. Good luck!
