image.jpg Male and Female Betta persephone
This tank is 10 gallons and had multiple males no filter. They use to be in a Fulval Edge 12 gallon it didn't like the flow.

I have always loved Betta persephone. Sadly, not only are they rare, I also heard they are extremely hard to keep. They shouldn't be any harder than Betta uberis, which I used to keep.

Very easy to keep. Just difficult to get them to breed

I thought they would be easy to keep. I'll try to invest in a pair in the future.

I've been wanting to get a pair since late 2014. Getting a Betta imbellis pair isn't cheap. A pair costs around $40 to $50. I could easily get a pair overseas, but transshipping can be Hell, and also expensive. I want to get a true imbellis pair from someone in the U.S., so I can avoid the Hell of transshipping. I can't get any imbellis right now, since I'm extremely low on cash.

Tough to get real imbellis here. Many sold as imbellis are hybrids and have personalities much more like spelendens. Many of the Over seas suppliers will rip you off. Don from ADG would be a good start, he has a source for wild bettas. And yes shipping does't come cheap. It's most of the cost.

Those are the exact reasons it's tricky to get them. I talked to Don about them sometime around January, and he is keeping an eye out for them.

I'm guessing they don't have a long life span either?? I don't think I could pay a lot of money for a fish that doesn't live long unless I was going to get serious about breeding, which I'm not at this time.

The problem as for any wild caught is you don't know how old they actually are, so they could be dead a few months after you bought them.

The 3 species of mouth brooders mentioned above are now captive bred. The Channoides and albimarginata are generally sold as sub/ young adults under a year.
Let's put it this way my oldest albimarginata lived to about 3 years before my dog got him.
The larger bettas (macrostoma, ocellatus, unimaculata) probably live longer but there is not any good info on that
