carbon filter and liquid co2

Is it a contradiction to use a carbon filter when you use liquid co2.

Carbon can limit or remove ferts from the water column. Purigen is stated to be more discriminate. I toss all mine and never have had any issue. Wasted space I'd prefer to use with biomedia
