  • Question: Fluval fx6 or eheim 2262?

I'm in the market for another filter. Called some LFS, and all they carry now is FX6 for around $325 cash (media included). Does anybody own this filter? For the price it is more economical than the Eheim 2262. What is your take? Thanks for your advice.

I've never had a fx6 but I have owned an fx5 and plenty of 2262. I have to say the 2262s are way better. But if they moved the pump from the bottom of the canister on the fx6s they should be better. The problem I was having witht the fx5 is it kept getting stuff stuck in the pump. I would have to take apart the filter to clean out the pump. It was a huge pain

Problem can be solved by placing a thing layer of micro fiber material on the bottom try before it goes thru the motor. Thats what i do and works like a charm. For the money u cant bet the fx5/6. They move a ton of water and are very reliable too.

          Thanks guys for your advice.
Is there different version of Eheim 2262? What about the Eheim 2260?
I found this one on Amazon: EHEIM FILTER 2262-38 W/VALVES

That's just a regular 2262. The 2260 has a smaller pump and doesn't come with the quick disconnects. The quick disconnects are worth the extra money for the 2262

You saying the Eheim 2262 in the link is a good deal? Looks like it has everything included.

That's about the going rate... doesn't come with media though.

Pump is set up the same. Honestly, I would scoop up a fx5 over an fx6 because it's much cheaper than before the fx6. I'd take an Eheim 2260/2 over an fx5/6. Like Don posted, for the price, it's a great deal, but quality/performance wise, the Eheim is the clear victor.

2262 is a beast of a filter, but costs a bit and without media can get expensive. Its like a 5 gallon bucket and Eheim media can be pricey when filling it

You don't have to use Eheim media in it. I run Kaldnes K1 in mine and it's very cheap. $50.00 for a cubic foot and has a lot more surface area to grow bacteria than Eheim media does. Better and cheaper than Eheim media.

Well, sound like 2262 is the way to go since I have 500 to blow. So what kind of media to put in there?

                          1. Mechanical subtrate.
                          2. Blue rough pad.
                          3. Bio balls.
                          4. Polish pad.

                          Please advise. Thank you.

2262 is the way to go pushes alot more water than the fx5! for bio media either eheim or biomax or a combo of both. I went with the combo of both on fx5

Baller Id just get the 2260 from aggro that he posted not so long ago and save money instead of buying new
