  • PLEASE READ: What is wrong with Houston water?

Just saw a post on cyphos.com that somebody lost their whole colony of WC Mikula frontosa after a water change TODAY. My guess is he did the wc in the morning when the city add heavy dose of Chlorine and chemicals and who know what. Did anybody do their wc today? Any issue? Thanks.

This happens way too often here in Houston, why don't people spend the $300 and get a carbon bottle before buying expensive fish? I just don't see it

Not everyone thinks about buying a carbon bottle because of "dechlorinate" is my guess.

            Epic FAIL.

Simple fix to a not so hard problem. Either get a carbon bottle like sunny said or dose ur tank properly with quality water conditioners. Water changes arent complicated or challenging !!

They can be if the chloramines are 5x the normal amount. Even if you have proper water conditioners, they are only designed to remove the normal amounts. If a person is oblivious to the fact that the levels are higher than normal, then only a carbon bottle will solve this issue. That or test strips.

If I have 2 bags of activated carbon in the canister, does it help? Does the carbon bottle remove all including chloramine?

Depends on which carbon is in it. Activated carbon only does Chlorine. Catalytic carbon does both but its much more expensive.

The big bottles that last 6-8 years are ordered from guys on here from time to time. Chrishem was selling some last year but I'm sure he's out. On a smaller scale, you can buy the RV filters from Walmart but they would only last a couple months with big water changes. Sure there's guys on here who can order some. The big ones will run about $325-350
