If you go with RODI make sure to get the minerals to add back. Put Barry on and let them go at it.

Ohhh, I'm not going RODI completely.

      I'm mixing 50/50.

My TDS levels are around 300. I want to get them down to around 150.

I think that should work. Unless I'm not understanding something.

No that's good that's what I'm doing on my discus tank.

What's your TDS out of your tap vs TDS in your tank?

          PH levels?

I'm try to stop being lazy and actually try to breed these fish.

My water out of tap is around 275uS and pH is around 8. I age my water and add a little muriatic acid to get pH to 7.0. No RO/DI. I live in Dallas so water is different from Houston.

Yes, mine have bred. Have had my current breeding group for 5 yrs.

It would seem like regular rain water should be the best. Hasn't anyone tried this with these? I keep one of those 40 gal. barrels full outside my house covered up to keep mesquetoes out. Its for special uses.

                    • Here in Houston? Rain water is probably worse than city water.

                      • Yeah, I rather just use RODI.

                        I trust my TDS meter.

                        • What are the dimensions of the caves you are using? They like small caves. What is your water parameters now?

                          • Grant,

Dimensions are around 1.25" W and H. They are range from 4-6" deep.

                            Water parameters are not ideal.

                            Temp: 82 degrees
                            Nitrates: > 10pmm
                            pH: 8.0
                            DTS: 380

I still haven't gotten around to lowing the DTS. I have a RODI unit but it's at my other house with the SW reef tank. I might just fork out the money and get another one for this house b/c I know the DTS needs to go down.....a lot.

Can you provide details to your tank? What do you feed yours? How many do you have?

                            • Here are some updated pictures.

And yes, I have included a FTS b/c I know trolls on here are always asking for FTS. :)

I've also notice a lot of changes in their behavior. They have been in the new tank for about 6 months now. I added rocks maybe 3 months ago.

Most of them are not in the caves anymore. Only 4 seem to like to stay in the cases. All the rest just like to lay under the rocks or between the cases.

Also, I can see little to no aggression during the day. I really don't know how they behave at night.

Either way, they have been eating like monsters. I feed once before I go to bed Sun-Th and they eat everything by morning. They do not get fed Fri and Sat.
