  • New FOWLR on the block

So as some know I am changing my 330G Discus tank to a FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) tank. This will be the new thread detailing the new tank.

It was a pain changing this thing over, but I was able to remove all of the sand and clean out my 2260 and wet/dry. I am changing my wet/dry into a fuge. I bought a glass piece to replace the old egg crate that held the sponge. I also removed all of the bio balls to put in sand and will probably make a fuge with Macros and Mangroves and some cool little fish. I am currently working on the plumbing and I just need to plumb my skimmer and figure out how much space I will have left over so I can get a tank to be my ATO reservoir. Also built a durso pipe before I used bio bale to reduce the noise from the falling water.

    Tank emptied

#6 is a very difficult fish to keep so i hear...that is my favorite saltwater fish, so that is the only reason I comment. I have read alot about them.

Bamboo Shark and ray. Something to hang out in the bottom zone.

That Niger Triger is bad a looking though.

You right but got to keep it a little interesting in the rare and hard to keep department.

Odonus niger is one of my very favorite fish. They just look awesome swimming around, IMO. I am also a big fan of Melichthys niger (the black triggerfish). Great fish. Both similar sizes, I believe. I'm a triggerfish guy, so if I were in your shoes, I'd start with triggers, and work from there. . . nothing wrong with your other options, though and I like your list. I've wanted a Canthigaster puffer for awhile.

I used to have triggers when I had my FOWLR tank years ago....Nigers and Picasso are cool, also check out Clown Triggerfish and Undulate Triggerfish. The yellow tangs with the blues are a cool combo too...can't wait to see what you decide on!

I found my Tang its called a Sohal Tang. This thing is a beast. There is a video of a small one fighting a clown trigger and a large Niger Trigger for food. In case you dont know clown and Niger triggers are the most aggressive triggers.

                          1. an undulate trigger is the meanest thing on the planet. Don't get one if you want to have any other fish.

2.do some research on putting multiple tangs in the same tank. Your tank is big, but not that big, and tall to boot. There might be some issues there.

and don't forget the order that they get put into the tank....and some fish are more or less aggressive that what you read. My percula clown was about 1.5" long and would bite my hand while I was cleaning the tank, and killed my undulate trigger....so much for hierarchy
