  • Adding Wild Caught?

I've got a 135G with various Malawis. I've been searching for a particular Hap for several years with no luck, and I've found it on AquaBid. It's a wild caught male.

My question is, what kind of luck have people had with introducing wild caught fish into a tank filled entirely with captive-raised fish? Any particular issues or concerns? Any experiences to share?

    Thanks,

    Eric

I think he would be perfectly fine. IF you quarantine him first. The biggest concern with adding any fish to an established tank, especially WC fish, is introducing some sort of pathogen(s) to your other fish. WC fish are much more likely to introduce something you don't want.

QT first. Make sure he looks okay after about a month, and then introduce him to the tank and watch closely. The second concern would be aggression, and you might want to do what other cichlid owners do when introducing new fish - water change, rearrange tank, and introduce new fish at night.

Also IMO I would always subject any WC through deworming. Internal parasites are much more prevelant in WC fish and its an easy treatment. Angel Plus sells deworming flakes that I have used before.
