I feel the price is the driving factor when I'm looking at buying.....I don't especially feel I should have to pay any extra for something, just because it has the "WC" tag on it.....

I also feel....that F1's and down...have better chance of surviving longer in the "intermediate" level hobbist home/tank, due to their exposure to clorine and other chemicals in our homes or shops, and not straight from the water/lakes of Africa...

          me two cents worth...

There are a couple threads here talking about it:

            Wild Caught vs. F1, F2

            Wild Caught vs. Pond/Tank Raised

            Pond Raised Fish

            Hybrid Bred Fish

Ultimately, unless you plan on spending thousands of dollars to professionally breed your fish (Tropheus in particular) I would just get whatever type of F_ or Tank Raised you can find that you like.

Save the money, save the heart-ache.

Whoops! Sorry I didn't run a search on the subject. I will read the previous threads like I should have to begin with.

if you plan on breeding, get wc or f1.
thae reason is that who ever you try to sell the fry to might be a little hesitant to buy tr fry over f1 or f2 plus you can charge a little more for the fry.

if you dont plan on breeding to sell i would go with f1. you still get strong genes but they are used to living behind the glass.

If any of my fish breed on their own, so be it. I'll enjoy it simply because it's enjoyable to see them behave naturally. However, I have no intentions of trying to breed fish for a profit.

From what I read in the other threads, I think non-wc is best for me. I don't want to pay the extra money, and I like the benefit of having fish already acclimated to a tank. Plus, I don't want to add to the decimation of the wild fish in their natural habitat. If everyone only accepted wild caught fish, supply would eventually dry up and no one would have any, including their native waters.

I respect everyone's choice on the matter. The information provided has informed me sufficiently so that I can make a choice that's right for me.

I like my WC Chilambo. Been looking for F1's to be avaiable, but since they are so rare in the US that noone has yet to put F1's up for sale that I have been aware of.. I am happy with my WC....

I know this thread is old . . . but it shares some good opinions on WC / F1 / Pond raised fish. Bump for the new folks.
