  • Tropheus Golden Kiriza - Linebreed By Burundi Farms

I saw a post in cichlid forum where several people were engaged in arguments about the source of "Golden Kiriza" and were wanting the proof.  Well for somereason, I am having a lot of trouble posting in there today and cannot get logged in.

So, for those wanting proof, or would you please post my comments for me.  I would appreciate it.  I am off to Vacation and will not be back until Tuesday.  For those that know me, they know that I do not have a computer, so I will not be able to respond until that time.

    Thanks,

    Geoff

    Here's my post:

I am sorry that I do not have the time to post more, because I am off for vacation. So to answers as many questions as I can...

The Golden Kiriza is a line bred Tropheus from Burundi Farms.  It is regularly imported into Europe and into the US by Old World Exotic.

Laif Demason, owner of Old World Exotic, and Famned co-hort of Ad Konnings, wrote that they (Burundi Farms) have created a line bred Kiriza that in 1/4 of all the offspring; they will produce a solid yellow fry.

The solid yellow occurs naturally in the lake very similiar to natural albino color.  It is a degenerate gene.  Regardless, the fish will produce offspring that is solid yellow, but will also mostly produce regular colored Kiriza, but because of the inbreeding to create them, they are very degenerative in size and color.  For me that is not wanted in my aquariums.

For everyone else, that is up to them what they want, its your tank, your fish.  I would appreciate it stays that way.

For more information on the matter please open the April 2008 edition, and if you want more either call Laif Demason, or order the copy for yourself and read more.

    Take care,

    Geoff

hey geoff I read the link and I couldn't find anything on Golden Kiriza.

Do you know of any other place where there is information on it? Don't have to be a link....articles, books, studies, etc. are find.  I just want to investigate into this.

          thanks.

I myself raised the question a few times to those that are actually over there on the lake as well as to those that have had contact with direct sources....hearsay, but those are not a natural occurrence or at least in the number in which they are offered.

Re: Tropheus Golden Kiriza - Linebreed By Burundi Farms

The fish occurs naturally but is a rare odditiy like ablino, or mutant OB.  The people at Burundi farms over the years have kept all the mutants and breed them all together to such a point now they can get the "oddity" to occur 25% of the time versus almost never.

This is what the picture caption states:

On the surface, this Tropheus looks like the normal Kiriza (Kaiser II) form. However, this form, sold as “black” or “black wag” because of its darker black markings, produces the highly desired Kaiser Gold form in about a quarter of their progeny.
