well I am currently building this... so far it's been a lot of fun researching and hunting down stuff to make this thing... so far I picked up a 90 gallon tank and stand for 50.00   and about 150.00 in just stuff... pipe, buckets for filter, foam, crate, rocks and so on... here are some picutes so far... and thak you EK for e-mailing that hook up.... I plan on putting neons or some small grwoth fish in the bottom and not sure about whats on top... a lizard, or a frog...... maybe both... I am not sure... what I am gonna do is get the girl from my local pet store to come by and look at it and tell me what I can put in it...   this thing will have a river and a waterfall.. and live plants.... I have a long ways to go.. I am planning on covering the back with moss... these will be made in sections for easy removal and cleaning ... and the overflow thingy is real cool how it works....
Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

Cool! Could you tell a little more about the materials and stuff you used? I'm having trouble seeing exactly what's on the right side of the tank.

Couldn't you have just used a canister filter for your filtration???  I understand your diehard DIY tendancies and all but I guess I'm just not seeing what you have going on in the buckets for filtration.

GIVE US MORE DETAILS MAN!!!!  These little teasers are killing us...LOL!!!

well the bucket filter... Is just plain cool...... Look, this tank is JUST FOR FUN.... I have my regular fish tanks.... this will house a couple lizards and maybe some frogs and of coarse some fish...... I just love the "contraption" metallity and people like it as well... this will be a work of art and mechanical contraption... It will be at my shop ..so I will have about 100 people a week looking at it..... and asking how stuff works and why... and I love to talk about stuff like this..... as maybe some can tell wiht my posting.... the over flow is just plain genious who ever thought it up...... (not me, I just made it work for my application)
so the theme of the tank is Skull Island    I will have a waterfall  and a river (river pictured) and I will have a on request timer for a rain function and fog and maybe a stobe light to sumilate lightning..... I will have a power head under the water for water flow.... and the pilars that hold the land will be filled with ADA dirt and there will be live plants growing....I may rig up low voltage lights inside caves and over hangs..... If I can figure it our.... everthing is hand made... the rive was made from high density styrofoam  (like signs are made from) and carved with a drimel and then airbrushed for effect and then a mix of pour-on high gloss epoxy clear was poured on and brushed in to seal it.. I then garnished it with some sand... this piece you see took about 8 hours to create..... This is my first.. and I see areas where I need to improve on.. and will address these as I move further into the project.... this is real fun so far.... any questions please feel free to ask.. I am no expert but would be willing to do a how to on how I made the river..... Notice the skulls .. those are painted into the formation...  OH.. and to answer the question of the canister pump..... I would not to control the level of the water..... this way it is a constant level.... and I think the out flow would be too forcefull....

                  cool!

for the low lighting inside the caves and stuff maybe some LED lights that have been sealed inside a clear epoxy to protect them and the connections from the moisture.  you could put them up inside the caves so the leds cant be seen directly, just the light they give off.

dude! thats awesome you should give the pvc pipes in the water a similar treatment as the 'stone' above the water.

well, I think I will ditch the bucket filter.... It works but not fast enuff to actually filter... so I will pick up a canister... the water fal and river are powered by a seperate pump.... this still need more water.. this was a "wet run" fish below... frogs and lizards above.... still have to figure out led lights for skull eyes... and fog machine.. seems as though everything I ever need is halfway across the world from where I am.... 90 gallon tank.. 90% of what you see I made, carved or created... only a couple store bought decor....
