  • Woodlands - Do they use Chlorine and/or Chloramine?

    Hi all,

Just starting my cycle on my new 29g which will eventually be a lightly planted community tank.

I was just wondering if The Woodlands uses Chlorine or Chloramine in their water.  On the back of my water conditioner (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Conditioner) it lists different amounts to use depending on which chemical is in your water.  I played it safe and just used the larger amount for Chloramine, but if it's not necessary to use that much then I'd rather not.

    Thanks!

Most likely Chloramine...  it can last a lot longer in the pipes which means they dont have to clorinate as much.
I always over chemical my water... this way I know for sure that nothing makes it into it that could potentially be a problem.

im gonna agree with jesper, i tend to recommend to people to double up even what it says because they use sooo much in houston water, its not as bad as it used to be, like i dont smell the chlorine when i turn on the sink, but that may mean that chloramines dont break up as easily so i dont smell it.

Thanks!  I was afraid if I used too much it would be harmful, but it sounds like that is not the case.

Hmm...I would have to say that it would be harmful if you added too much. But the amount you're adding seems just fine.

Mzungu -- on the bottle of most of these products will tell you that unless you pour in the bottle and use it instead of water, it does not harm the fish.  It chemically bonds with the chlorine and Chloramine and what ever is left over will bond with Ammonia.  Since Ammonia is being constantly produced in a tank it will bond with it until its chemical bonding capabilities have been exhausted.

I just use the dose for the entire tank when adding....regardless of water I removed/replaced.
