Raul owns 2 of them also.

He told me the prime function is worthless.

Be careful with the valves and other hardware, they can break easy.

        Re: Odyssea CFS4 Canister Filter

I have been running one on a 75 gallon tank for about 6 months now. I have been afraid to touch it, since I have read all the reports on them. But I will take it down this weekend and clean it up and let you all know how that goes.

We got 8 of these.  And we LOVE them.  We've only done maintenance on one though so far, and I have to agree with Raul that the prime function was useless...that is, until we emptied the tubes.  Then the prime button worked again.  They've all primed correctly on initial installation.  The only thing I'd change is having different options other than the spraybar.  I like to use something that will move the water surface.  The Rena's all have optional fittings, and that is a big plus for Rena in my opinion.

They are good cheap filters if you are in a bind for cash and don't like HOB's.  I had one that worked flawlessly for about 6 months and then things started going wrong one after another.  First was the priming button and then the seal around the cord shot craps.  Once that seal was shot it never would stay running or it would leak.  Parts are kinda hard to find for them also unless you find someone that carries them in their store.

              Re: Odyssea CFS4 Canister Filter

Had one for a year. It worked fine, but I replaced the quick-connect valves 3 times (that's every other cleaning)!!! One time the connector broke inside, and the developed a slow leak. Next moring there was a gallon on the hardwood floors! Pain in the arse! I was going to put stub tubes on each end and use an inline quick connect, but in the end I just bought a new filter.

I would say from a peace of mind perspective, buy something a little more robust.

                  Re: Odyssea CFS4 Canister Filter

Okay, Mike gave me a great deal on one so I thought I'd give one a shot. I'm guessing my stand was too short and there was too much slack for the prime button to work effectively, so I just tipped the canister over to complete the siphon. I like the multiple filter stages and the canister looks pretty sturdy, but the connectors do look a little fragile, so I'll just know to be careful when working with them.

Eheims are workhorses, at least the one I have keeps on running fine, everything always works.
