I have a 100 gallon tank, but I only want to clean the water thats up against the glass, I'm not worried about whats in the middle. How many gallons do you think that would be?

$1 a gallon is the going rate actually.  That's what I charge for people I clean tanks for, unless they are regular customers and don't live too far.

It would be a bit pricey for me though....with 1,325 gallons worth of tanks.

That's what I was thinking Raul.....I think that service is good for those that like to look at fish but don't know nothing about them other then they swim and need to be fed.

The price would not appeal to any true hobbyist cause if you tally up all the tanks that is out of budget and the money spent could be used for more tanks or fish!

Thanks, but for that I would buy me another tank or two like Ek stated....lol

I'm sure there are some people on here that use a service or are in need of a service, but not many.  Like EK said...we all take care of our own....

What I did do for the first time today is hire someone to cut my grass for the first time.  Guess I'm just too tired from cleaning tanks...LOL.  I got the commercial hardware to do it, just can't find the time for everything anymore...and its going to get worse.  I got another little one on the way.  Yay!

                        Landon,

You have a very good concept. But 99 percent of us on this site dont have a life outside of fish.

                        Now somethings you should consider.

                        1. Advertise on craiglist and in the greensheet.
                        2. Place flyers around your neighborhood.
                        3. Instead of a dollar a gallon set flat rates on a range of tank size. Since you will not be doing a full water change on a 55 for 55 dollars. But something like this:

                        10 to 30 gallons fresh water $20.00
                        40 to 90 gallons Fresh water $ 30.00  dollars
                        etc etc etc

                        And 10 dollars for saltwater

This is just a little help to get your business started.

                          Re: Aquarium maintenance service

Yeah, but other factors are distance, current state of the tank(s), and if it is Salt vs. Fresh in conjunction if it is a planted tank as well.

I would factor in my rate - my time, my supplies and my gas.  In most cases, $1 per gallon is right on target and people pay it and more.  I hate one time gigs though....usually the tank is already too far gone and you spend way more time and they expect miracles that's why I stick to my regular customers.

                            Re: Aquarium maintenance service

The key, is to offer to set something up and then maintain it.

Grab a spare 100 gallon or something, get the stuff to set it up cheap and advertise "$500 down, 100 per month maintenance free fish tank, all you do is feed"

Some businesses will pay it, heck, thats like, 3 bucks a day. In return you stock the tank, and keep it clean (probably means stopping by twice per month) but if they sign a contract then it's steady income, YaY for accounts receivable =)

If they break the contract.. well, thats why you put wheels on the bottom of the fish tank stand  8O

What all three of us are saying is true.

But Ramus sugestion is on point. You can alwasy by a used tank (hell most folks give them away) and set it up in a school, church, business etc....
