How do I take my aquarium with me?
I'm going to Austin, but my daughter
Lives here. So I will be coming
Back a lot. She has small apartment.
    So can this be done?
90 gal freshwater, 29 gal freshwater
Planted tanks. One is hi tech and a
    Low tech tanks. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

Break down the entire tank. Remove substrate and put into buckets. Plants and fish in another bucket with a battery powered airstone. Do not attempt to move the tanks with anything in them. It sucks to have to break them down and set them up again but it can be done

Ok, thanks, I will get some buckets, and a battery air stone. Maybe 2 or 3 of them.
      Thank you

Remove fish. Lower water level to where it just covers plants. Take newspaper and place over plants and wet the paper. All you need to do is keep plants moist. I have moved aquariums that way to shows not to disrupt plants. Also you my need to add some water once tanks are in vehicle.

Won't the water rock around in the tank as I drive?

I moved my 75 and 29 gallons planted tanks without taking anything out 6 months ago because i'm lazy. I left like 3 - 4" of water in there for the fish. I had 4 guys, and it was still freaking hard. Luckily nothing broke, and all the fish survived. The water moved around in there too much caused my plants and moss to uproots/ break/ fall off. Driftwood and rocks were rolling around inside mashing plants.

If I do it again, I will take all the fishes, rocks, driftwood out, and then drain all water out. leave plants and substrate in there, cover the top with plastic wraps to keep the plants from drying and move them like that. maybe take some of the substrate in your 90 gallon out because it will be heavy to lift.

Please do not move the tanks with anything in them, you're only asking for trouble if you do. I've had success using brute cans for the livestock and plants with a battery powered bubbler

Taking down the tank is the best answer. Plants can easily be put in bags with wet newspaper and if the trip is short, Just in a plastic bag with air.

Unless you have fish that are pets, I would give them away unless your first priority is to set up the tank in your new home. If you happen to have L144 longfin plecos......call me first!

Sorry to see that disrupting to root system means nothing to most. Plants are shipped bare root and keep moist with newspaper. As far as rocks remove them so they don't break glass. This my last post. Maybe if you understood the hobby your in and how fish and plants are shipped. Then maybe some of you just might understand the hobby. Signing off.

Maybe it's just me, but I would rather disrupt the root system than disrupt the structural integrity of the tank

I have to agree with Austy and Mike. Brake down the tanks. If it was being moved across the street, maybe that would be ok, but you're moving 100plus mil.
