Digging pits is 1-his way of marking territory and 2-him amusing himself. The eggs weren't fertilized b/c it doesn't seems like they've formed a pair yet/hit it off. Sometimes all it takes is for them to at least "agree" to doing the business, and that may not have happen yet. Whether it's the "agreement" or actu Soally a formed pair, it is my experience that this could be an overnight thing, a 6 months thing, and everything in between. So think of it as a timing issue. Just b/c she's ready and/or you're ready for some action doesn't mean he is...kinda gotta let their clocks sync up. Other factors include age, food, tank condition, etc...all of which you may have heard at some point or another. So all in all, give it some time and try not to get frustrated or discouraged...
