Does anyone receive monthly catalogs or magazines for freshwater fish? If so, please direct me to a place where I can subscribe.

I was doing water changes on on my tanks today and decided to be nice and do a water change on my wife's tank. she has a 5 gal with a one eyed fancy goldfish named "Willie" and a small cory cat. I did about a 50% water change. I usually just use a large cup to remove some water, but this time I decided to siphon the gravel. About an hour and a half later while cooking diner she yells at me that her fish are dead. I looked at the tank and the cory was dead and Willie was gasping on the surface. I immediately knew I screwed up. Poured in half a cap of PRIME and started to use a cup to oxygenate the water. After a few minutes I remembered I had some ammonia remover granules in a bin of fish stuff, so I put them in a small net and hung it in the tank. Continued to poor water from the tank over the net and oxygenate for about 20 min. It has now been about 3 hours and Willie is swimming good.

Thanks to previous threads I had the knowledge to know what was wrong and calculate an idea of how to fix it. Thanks HFB :icon_super::icon_super::icon_super:

I went to walmart to pick up some odds and ends and I always wonder to go look at how horrible the fish look. Well I happened to see this. This oscar had this dead black fin shark sticking in his mouth. He was just swimming around with it!! Sorry the pics or crappy.

So I just picked up this guy from petco. He was in the assorted cichlid tank. He has blotchy spots like my blotch zebra but his colors are very vibrant. He is purplish blue and orangish red with black spots. And It looks like he has some striping too.Here are some pics. Sry they are not that good or clear this little guy would not stay still!

I have two big rocks adding upto around 30-35 lb...I have a 55G on a metal stand. The stand is regular one which supports all 4 sides not the entire base...

Is it a good Idea to put those rocks in the tank or will I be pushing my luck too far?!?!?!

Okay, I think I've managed to talk my wife into letting me get a bigger tank (we tentatively promised the kids gerbils, so I can now buy a bigger tank for the fish and use my 20 for the rodents). I'm not happy with my black gravel substrate, it's not really black anymore and it's only a year old, so I'm going to use this opportunity to change to something else. I would like to go with a black or very dark sand. Can anyone recommend something besides Tahitian Moon, which I understand packs too tight plus will eventually burn out the impeller on a HOB? I see that CS makes another black sand called Voodoo River which has a larger grain, but it still has the smaller particles that I'm worried about staying in the water column. Should I just give up and go buy some Leslie's PFS? I really, really like my dark substrate, but I also really, really like not having my filter burn up, too.

I have a build up on my glass that is green. It is extremely firm and very difficult to remove. I worry if I scrub much harder that I will scratch the glass.

I have tried the big magnet and the brillo pad on a stick with very limited success.

I am already using as little light as possible, but the room gets natural light from the skylights.

Pleco have had marginal results as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have three freshwater tanks. One with Convicts. One with Platys. One with Gouramis. Can I take away the heater from any of the tanks and the fish will survive? Thank you!!!!

Some genius decided that A/C wasn't needed on the weekend if nobody was here. My fish were literally cooked as a result. :furious:

Hey, out of curiousity, which rainbowfish species would be good in a 40-br (36"x18" footprint)?

I'm looking for one that will hopefully stay together, but that I can get a decent-sized group. . . like 10 or more. I have some ideas, but I want to know what you all think.

I'd also like to hear about the best tankmates. . .
