<!-- END TEMPLATE: bbcode_quote -->We happened to have a 10 gal tank, so my daughter cleaned it up for &quot;Oscar&quot;. When I saw it, my creative self got to work. I had been to the Big Bend area last October and had collected some beautiful rocks. I thought that this would be a wonderful way to display them. I cleaned them up and put them into the tank. It looked great! In the meantime, my daughter had brought home some platys. What fun fish! It wasn't long, but, Oscar the angel fish died. I don't know much about fish diseases, but, it seemed like swimbladder disease. We had our water tested several times and got a lot of advise from the Houston Aquarium Warehouse. After making the tank look so beautiful, I couldn't give up just yet. I bought several books at the Half Price Book Store and have asked all kinds of questions at different stores. Sometimes I get conflicting information, but, it seems the best teacher is to learn by mistake. The internet has been a big help. I have had several platys and one day I was sure that one was pregnant and was going to pop at any time. I had them in the tank with 2 angels and was afraid that the angels would eat the fry. I rushed to the pet store to buy a separate tank. I ended up with a 6.5 gal bookshelf tank. I took care to set it up as correctly as I knew. I waited a few days, checking the water conditions daily. Finally, I added my platys. I never had any babies. My 10 gal tank has, also, had the beginnings of algae problems. I got a flying fox, a couple of emerald corys and 4 tiny algae eaters of some sort, maybe Chinese. Those little guys can really clean a tank. My corys didn't make it. I would like some more, soon. Well, I decided that the 10 gal was too small and I was finding all kinds of fish that I would like to have. I bought a 29 gal when Petco had the $1/gal sale. I was going to gather the accessories a little at a time. Then, I saw an ad in the classifieds at my job for a 40 gal + accessories and stand for $100. I couldn't let it go. The 29 gal is still in my garage. In my 40 gal I have the two angels, 2 flying foxes, 3 platys (2 males, 1 female) and 2 tiny algae eaters. I plan to add more when I return from a weekend trip coming up. I have 2 platys (1 male, 1 female) in the 6.5 gal tank and 2 tiny algae eaters. I've had to separate my platys because I have too many males. They are fighting and have already bullied one little Wag to death. I'm thinking of getting 4 more females today and putting them all together in the 40 gal. At this time, my 10 gal is empty except for some plants. I am interested in adding more to my 40 gal and would accept any advise on fish and plant species. I plan to return the 29 gal to Petco if I can find my receipt, but, if I don't hurry, my daughter will probably start a salt water tank.</blockquote>
