  • instance ocean reef crystal salt mix.

I'm in the process of doing a water change and I decided to switch the instance ocean reef crystal. But the water I mix doesn't look clear. Its cloudy and hazing. Its been mixing for about 3 days now and it still isn't clear. Is this normal and is it safe to go ahead and put it in the tank?

Here's a picture of the salt I used.

You should switch to red sea coral pro after you finish that one, it mixes better. Only took about 30 mins before it cleared up

From what I read instant ocean is pretty low quality stuff that fogs up for awhile. my suggestion would be a better quality salt. But that's just me...

No... Reef Crystals is very good salt.

            It's totally safe. Use it.

I use instant ocean. Nothing wrong with it. Some of you all have seen my tanks. I buy several boxes at a time

+2 to Omar's / Sempers response. I saw the tanks and the huge box of salt

I use reef crystals also, when it's in the bucket mixing, it does seem a little cloudy but I don't notice anything after pouring it into the tank

To add, there's a reason why almost every major public aquarium uses instant ocean too. It's really stable salt. Maybe not ideal for full sps tanks as say redsea gives a little higher mineral content, but when it comes to salt... I'll take stability anyday

There's a chemist over in the RC forums and he only uses instant ocean. He doesn't even use reef crystal because its high in boron something I forgot. I'll try and find the thread for you.

I'm using instant ocean, not reef crystals . Mix it overnight and check salinity. Once it's at 1.024-1026 it's good to go. Ive used all the salts over the years. Didn't really notice the changes . With so many tanks its easier on the pocket with IO.
