  • Sponge filter in saltwater?

Finally starting the saltwater hobby after years of freshwater only keeping. Feel so confused by the salties!
Does anyone recommend a sponge filter in addition to HOB filter?
This setup has served me very well with my freshies, but any advise will help!
    Thanks.

I wouldn't... just stick with the hob

Anything that has a filter/floss/sponge... anything that collects debris needs to be replaced a couple times a week in saltwater. Your biological filtration is in the live rock/sand. You need sand/live rock... then a HOB filter converted into a refugium (take out filter media... add eggcrate to the flow return of the hob, fill it with chaeto and add a clamp light.) Refugium will keep nitrates in check.

Thanks. I've got a 40gal rec. HOB I'm converting into refugium for my 15 gal tank. Live sand and and rock going in tank. Just checking on in-tank sponge filter needs/recommendations.
          Thanks again for the help!
