I have a tank with 4 south american puffers and a few other fish. I need to grow out some snails to feed the puffers once a week or so. What is the best small and cheap setup for this? I have a 10 gal but don't want to use it for snails. Looking for creative ideas. Thanks

Colored ramshorn. There's a large variety of colors to choose from. You can put them in that 10gal and add some fish or shrimp you want or maybe both?

Maybe do a planted tank with snails and shrimp?

An outside pond/pool perhaps? I have seen a few of those whiskey barrel ponds do well with floaters and could house a decent ramshorn breeding colony. All our snail breeding tank ideas eventually were scrapped as they just did not function correctly. We now have a huge MTS factory in our Tanganyikan tanks and very decent breeding assassin snails (planted tanks) and Tylomelania snails (Sulawesi biotope), but they are all a bit hard for your SAP's. Having had a small colony for years, I would recommend overlooking teeth trimming as they are the worst puffer in this regard. Very few of mine ever lived beyond a year and a half without trimming. It is relatively easy, just a bit disconcerting the first time. There are quite a few vids online and ratios for clove oil usage.

Suki (our Fahaka) loves MTS, but with SAP's they have such delicate beaks that grow soooo quickly I'd be worried feeding them. Small pieces of blue crab could work as an alternative perhaps.

I've been selling a lot of Ramshorn snails on aquabid. I'm guessing most are going for food. I had to find something to do with all the snails as they are overpopulating my tanks and causing my ph to crash. I've got a good colony going in one of those 1/2 gallon plastic critter keepers.
