  • From Cichlids to Fancy Guppies...lost

2007 - 5 tanks of tiny shell dwelling cichlids. Hard to find, I had bred some gorgeous pairs that took years to produce. Invested waaay too much money. I sold all my tanks. I was done.

    Fast forward to 2012

My 4yr old daughter sees a picture of me an all my tanks and is upset that we don't have one now. I roll my eyes and think Guppies! You can't kill Guppies. They are cheap. They have them everywhere, Petsmart - even Walmart. Perfect.

Of course someone like me just has to start googling about what other colors are out there. Now I'm ready to feed my Petsmart guppies to a friend's South American tank and start over. Where can you go in Houston for more interesting guppies? Is there a good website that helps catalog common guppies and some crosses? I need to learn MORE!!!
Can you run across some more interesting guppies at Petsmart?

Oh, except that shipping is crazy. Is there not a place (or person) in Houston who has them?

Houston Aquatics breeds many varieties on site and has quite a selection. It is the only local store I know that deals in them heavily and they are very reasonable on prices...

there are tiger endlers at HAW. my petco (sugarland) has guppies divided into 4 tanks, females, regular fancy males, lyretail males, and cobra males. the cobras are essentially snakeskin. all are priced at 2.99$. be careful though, there have been issues with illness recently although it seems to be better now.
                my fish house:
                2.5g- ramshorn hatchery
6g eclipse- yellow shrimp, chili rasboras, yellow apple snails
29g- geo grow-out, angels, 12"fire eel, dwarf frog, apple snails
45g- jade sleeper gobies, native killifish, feeder endlers

                75g-
2 oscars, parrot, silver dollars, albino channel cat, syno euptera, bichir, baby jaguar, convicts, yabby
                125g- fahaka puffer, rainbow shark
                and about a dozen bettas....

I think we have a registered guppy breeder on here. I heard about the person a few times. Villa1973 breeds some nice looking ones. HAW has some freakishly large guppies. They're about 2.5"!!

the guppies at HAW are freakishly large but they are still just regular guppies. OP doesn't want regular guppies, I thought.
