  • too much light?

Can a reef tank have too much light? I mean, I dont have algae growth or anything, just my SPS colors are faded bad under my bright LED lights. I have taken a few frags and put them back under t5s and they colored up great! Any help?

    too much light?

Sounds like your LEDs, aren't putting out the light spectrum they need.

        too much light?

It's a good temp for corals I know that, but I want to say I remember hearing/reading some where that LEDs weren't good alone for that kinda stuff. I could be 100% wrong, I honestly don't know. I will be interested in someone else's input when they post it. Always nice to learn new things.

What kind of leds do you have from what I've read when you run leds they need to be turned down (dimmed down) till corals get use to it otherwise the leds will bleach out the color. I believe what I red is start off at 50% and work your way up slowly

the LEDs themselves are dimmable, its the drivers that need to be different if you wanted to dim them. I only have the info I have gathered for planted FW tanks, but from that I know that LEDs can be all over the place as far as spectrum / temperature. Even a Cree rated for 8000k can be shifted +/- 25% from that point, it depends on the bin (batch) and often the better bins go to the higher end fixture mfg.

from what i know about corals bleaching in the wild, i would guess its a spectrum issue too. maybe consider mounting them higher and along side the T5s and see if that helps? again thats just a guess

I would but I have them as high as I can inside the canopy

is it open top inside the canopy? a glass top will act as a mild diffuser for too much radiation but i dont know if that would be good for the heat dissapation in a reef tank.
