  • The mosquitoes wouldnt let me collect much

My family owns 14 acres in the country and about 3 acres is usually under water. I tried to do some collecting today but I forgot to wear a beekeepers suit. The mosquitoes were crazy and I couldnt take it for very long. I took a couple pics but the water wasnt the best. I did catch one more mollie and a couple fat mosquito fish. I also snagged this plant because I have seen how great they look in the right water conditions. Its a little on the poor side because the water was getting kinda stagnant.

I don't think it's hot enough for bowfin. I'd like one to add to the aggro tank though!

I'm not good with species name. Looks like a horwort but puts out roots and my wort doesnt do that. I've seen it with red and green colors.

You lucky SOB, I bet there's some great plants and critters in there. Could be Myriophyllum? Hard to tell from the picture.

Good call with the myrio. It looks just like that. My first aquarium was a 30 gal; I never had a store bought fish. I've had all kinds of critters from shrimp to bass. Good example was this guy I had for about 2 years.

I've never knew you could just wander around the marshes in the area and catch mollies.

I found out several years ago when I saw a bright green flash in the ditch. Took me about 3 days to catch that male and then I started researching online.

You can find them in stagnant ditches on the side of the road. How the fish got there, I have no idea.
