  • Freshwater clam

I seem to have an unlimited supply of freshwater clams in the lake behind my house. I was wondering if anyone had put a few in there tank to feed there puffer. My Fahaka will eat just about anything I give him but, i've never tried the clams. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

We feed ours clams from the grocery store. I'd recommend freezing them to kill any possible pathogen and slightly crack open the shell to let the Fahaka rip out all the goodies. With the freshwater mussels around here their shells are not nearly as tough as the saltwater ones, so they'll likely even be able to tear through it, but I have never tried it.
