  • New Pond setup

Ok, So I dragged one of my emty 300 ponds out to the back yard for initial setup. I will begin setup and cycling so that when the temperature gets warmer fish will be added.

The small one is for some shrimp breeding... Attempt..

Next to it will be another 300G tub once I take the fish out and put in the 220 tank in the garage. These two outside will be for cichlid growout.

Keep us updated with progress. How are you going to prevent the water from heating up?

There isn't any shading in your yard?
I imagine LA has temperatures similar to ours!

Why would I need to control the heat in the cichlid pond?? I just need to control the algae.. I have that taken cared of with a UV Sterilizer.

Are you talking about the shrimp pond?? I can put it on the side of the house that is shaded by both houses. That is why I am asking questions before I begin to setup totally and put things in there. I was thinking that shrimp would enjoy grazing in the algae that grew, but if shrimp (RCS and CRS) don't like warm water, then I can move it to the other side of the house.

I am all about suggestions guys :)

Do sulawesi shrimp in the ponds . . . they like high temps.

I have only 1 of the small tubs, but I have 1 4X4X4 that I am not doing anything with. What are the nice ones that are going around.

I should have enough akadama to start it at least.

                      What are your thoughts Tim??

They like hard water, no need for akadama!

With sulawesi shrimp, just set it up like a cichlids tank. No need for akadema.

I guess I was a little late with that one . . .they'll eat the algae. You won't even need to feed them.
