  • Clown V.S Chrmois

Hey, I just got a ocellaris clown today from Fish Ranch and he and my Blue Green Chromis are fighting. Well, not really fighting but sometimes the blue green chromis swims to it really fast and scares the clown. Is this normal. PS: It is a 10g aquarium

    Thanks for the help

Moving decor around always helps breakup the current inhabitants "territories."

The chromis are also a schooling fish if you added more of them they would chase each other and leave the clown alone. Although not possible in a small tank as yours. I would seriously get a larger tank minimum 29 gal for salt.

I am currently looking for one of that size. I moved the decor around last night and the chromis is just like swimming right in front of the clown. The clown's fin is getting ripped a bit and I think he is getting ick.

Let him dry out for a bit. I fine that always helps.
I ate my fish that died.

It is not ick, in saltwater it is call crypt, Do not use the same treatment as you would for frehwater, I would use coppersafe 1/2 dose if you have any inverts, Shrimp or anything like that live rock, or corals the coppersafe will kill them.If you treat them you need to remove any charcol filtration from your filtration system on the tank.It is much tougher to get rid of the saltwater form of it. As long as you have the two fish together you will, always have this problem in this small tank. I would suggest getting rid of the chromis as he is the problem fish. Give him to a local fish store, and keep only the Clown until you can provide an adequate home for the both of them. Or the clown will eventually die from stress if not from the Crypt.

                      Good Luck!

If your tank has corals (or you are planning add corals later), I wouldn't use copper in your display tank, copper won't be safe for a reef tank. Inverts are very sensitive to copper and they will die.
My suggestion is move the sick fish to a quarantine tank without LR and start the treatment. Or just give the sick fish to somebody else who can nurse the little guy and start over from scratch, patience is key with saltwater.
Adding copper will turn your LR useless for a reef tank (for now and for the future).
