  • Found this guy in galveston

Found this guy at a pond in Galveston. There were at least 5 pair this size. This is just one I pulled out with a cast net. Pretty good size for a Texas Cichlid.

No I didn't keep him. There are 5+ pairs just along the bank of the pond. I'm going to go back at some point and get pairs. I feel kinda bad splitting up pairs. Did a bit of googling, and haven't found any pics with a hump that big. When I first saw them swimming around, I thought it was a flowerhorn. I've never seen another fish with a head hump that large.

Nice, I've found a few that big in Sugar Land. Beautiful guys, ultimately too territorial for my tastes. If I had to go with a single species native tank I'd pick longears before cichlids.

Not quite understanding you here. Did you mean you would keep sunfish before cichlids or longear fish before texas fish?

Longear sunfish before Texas cichlids. The color cannot be beaten by any other native in this area.

I'm pretty sure that, thats a Rio Grande Cichlid. Caight on just like him in our neighborhood lake. Put him in a tank wit my Jack Dempsies and the fight was on. He''s back in the lake now.

Good looking fish. The longears are real nice too. How hard is it to convert them to pellets?
